The Role:
St. Francis Dispensary is a charity veterinary clinic seeking an individual with an interest in animal welfare and a background in accountancy/financial management to assume the volunteer Finance/Treasurer role. If you have experience in this area and want to play a role in helping shape an exciting future for the veterinary charity, we would love to hear from you! Specific responsibilities include:
Monitoring financial performance of the charity and having an overview of the finances to advise the Board on financial implications of proposals, cash flow problems etc.
Liaising with the bookkeeper, auditors and practice manager to ensure that the annual accounts are finalised promptly and in adherence with the relevant regulations/standards.
Collaborate with other board members to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
Ensuring that auditor recommendations are brought to the attention to the board.
Identifying financial risks and developing mitigation strategies.
To be an authorised signatory of the Charity (bank accounts etc.)
Oversight of compliance and risk management in line with usual board responsibilities
Other duties relating to governance and administrative tasks etc. may arise in relation to this role depending on the capacity of the individual to take on additional tasks.

St Francis Dispensary for Sick and Injured Animals is an indigenous independent Irish Registered charity, established in 1926 to provide professional veterinary care to the domestic pets of persons of limited means at affordable rates. In 2024, it treated over 2,300 animals.
St Francis is a modest animal welfare charity but has been busy in recent years modernising its veterinary clinic and expanding opening hours to better serve the community of people with limited means and growing its team of valued employees. These initiatives were only possible through the dedication of the committee, who are supported with relevant training opportunities. St Francis is compliant with the charity regulator’s statutory obligations and is a member of the Wheel, Ireland’s national association of community and voluntary organisations, charities and social enterprises.
Board Meetings:
There are monthly board meetings. Most meetings are held online in the evening with c. 3 meetings per annum held in person at St Francis Dispensary, Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, Dublin 8
