Revenue recently announced that EWSS subsidy payments for September payroll submissions would be brought forward to last Friday. Payments were originally due from Revenue after 14 October. Future monthly payments will now be made as soon as possible after the fifth day of the following month. The Minister for Finance welcomed the announcement of expedited subsidy payments from Revenue. Chartered Accountants Ireland has called for the alignment of EWSS payments with the employer’s payroll frequency to minimise cashflow hardship for employers with weekly payrolls.
Some 31,700 employers should have received subsidy payments amounting to just under €250 million in their designated bank account, for September payroll submissions, last Friday. Revenue aligned the payment date with the availability of the monthly ‘Employer PAYE Return Submission Statement’, through the acceleration of the EWSS payments.
In a press release, Revenue is highlighting the importance of timely and correct payroll submissions, as the window for making necessary corrections before the subsidy is paid has shortened.
The Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, TD welcomed confirmation that payment dates have been brought forward, through a press release issued by the Department of Finance. The uptake of the EWSS, with 31,700 employers receiving payments in respect of 335,000 employees, was said to be broadly in-line with expectations. The Minister stressed that the success of the EWSS lies in its responsiveness, noting that the scheme remains open for applications from employers, should they need the support into 2021.
