Format
This full day course will be delivered via Zoom on
Friday 25 September 2026 from 9.30am to 5.30pm . The Zoom link will be emailed to participants the day before the course is due to take place.
The online interactive live sessions will utilise the
functionality of our online learning platform and will be an engaging,
collaborative manner of learning. This session will not be recorded, and
therefore attendance is required.
Who should attend
Any member going into practice is obliged to attend this course in the year before or after obtaining their practising certificate. The course is primarily focused on the needs of members starting their own practices or being admitted as partners in small and mediums sized practices, in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Course overview
This interactive course will encompass a full day's worth of learning.
Interaction with the speakers is encouraged, allowing you to ask the questions
that matter to you. Some of the key topics that we will cover over the day
include:
- The Basics of Going into Practice, including the pitfalls to avoid when
starting out on your practice journey.
- The fundamentals of Practice Regulation that you need to know.
- Leading practitioners sharing their stories of what it takes to succeed in
practice.
- An overview of the Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) market; and
- An overview of Practice Management and Development.
Key learning outcomes
By the end of this course,
participant will be able to:
- Understand the basics of practice compliance, including when you need a Practising Certificate
- Appreciate what should be included in a Practice Business Plan
- Know what causes most practice insurance claims and how to avoid them
- Develop an understanding of what makes a successful
practice and what pitfalls to avoid
- Understand the key business drivers of practice and how to begin to market
your practice.
Speaker Bios
Jeremy Twomey - FCA, Jeremy in his role as Head of Practice
Consulting works alongside his team to support our member practitioners across
our service areas, with a particular focus on compliance support, training and
our associated advisory services. Jeremy is a Fellow of the Institute, having
trained with Ernst & Young; he has held senior management positions across
both financial and professional services, as well as the public sector.
