Course overview
HMRC will share the key technical rules underpinning MTD for income tax
including how to work out who is and is not mandated and from what date, what
quarterly updates are, what these must contain and when and how they are due for
filing, the software requirements of MTD for income tax, exemptions, and the
final declaration. HMRC will also share how you and your clients need to prepare
now ahead of April 2026 and what actions to take including how you can
participate in the current trial.
Key learning outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand and apply the basic technical rules to their
client base
- Assess how MTD for income tax affects their practice and
their clients including working out who is mandated and from what date
- Be able to explain to clients what MTD for income tax
means and its requirements
- Be able to take action to prepare their practice and
their clients ahead of the first tranche of mandation from April 2026
Speaker Bio:
Sam Wood BSc ACA - Sam works with agents
within HMRC’s Making Tax Digital programme and has a background in accounting
and digital transformation. He is responsible for Cross Cutting Stakeholder
Engagement, Policy and Strategy at HM Revenue & Customs. Sam is a Chartered
Accountant and a member of ICAEW with wide experience of Making Tax Digital from
its inception.
