This course will be delivered via Zoom on  Thursday 22 May 2025 from 09:30am to 16:30pm. The link to acess this course will be emailed to participants the day before the course is due to take place.

Who should attend

This session is suited to accountants, and other business professionals, who are new to management or looking to improve their core skills in managing people so that they can get the best from their team.

Course overview

  • Review your new role as a manager; how this impacts your team; challenges that you face and how to overcome them
  • Build a personal skills mastery plan that will help you develop your leadership skills
  • Outline the different styles of managing and leading your team and how each style impacts the performance of your team
  • Understand the different personality types within your teams, how to manage each personality and the best approach to communicating with each person
  • Use a 6-step approach to delegate effectively
  • Understand what motivates and engage people within your team and how to get the best performance from them
  • Clarity around standards, goals and expectations that builds engagement
  • Understand your role in Talent Support and how to build a skills-based culture within your team that improves performance
  • Use feedback techniques to create a meaningful feedback culture within the team that is centred on being supportive and results focused.

Key learning outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Deal with the challenges of transitioning to being the leader of the team
  • Adapt their style of managing to positively impact the performance of their team
  • Understand the various personalities within their team and identify the best way to manage them
  • Establish a feedback culture that encourages outstanding performance
  • Highlight the importance of an agreed “ways of working” within the team
  • Build a skills-based culture within their team that promotes self-development and learning
  • Delegate effectively by using key coaching principles

Speaker Bio

Sean McLoughney
Over the last 25 years Sean has been listened to by tens of thousands of professionals who all seek to improve their performance. He has worked with global organisations, universities, SMEs and member bodies. He has also worked closely with accountancy firms and finance teams to build training programmes that develop and support some of the next generation of accountants. He has written four books based on these topics which are published by Chartered Accountants Ireland.
