Summary of Role
Our clients is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of Finance to lead their finance function through its next phase of growth. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for financial strategy, compliance, reporting, and team development. You will oversee the accounts team, ensuring robust financial controls, timely reporting, and alignment with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Financial Leadership
• Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
• Provide timely, accurate financial reporting and insights to the Managing Director, SMT and Group
• Drive financial strategy to support business growth and profitability
• Act as a business partner to senior stakeholders, providing commercial insight and challenge
Financial Operations & Compliance
• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
• Ensure compliance with UK & Ireland statutory requirements (VAT, payroll, pensions, audit)
• Manage cashflow forecasting and working capital
• Liaise with external auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies
• Ensure adherence to travel industry-specific regulations (e.g. ATOL, IATA)
Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team
• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development
• Set clear objectives and ensure delivery against deadlines
Systems & Process Improvement
• Enhance financial systems, reporting tools, and automation
• Maintain and improve internal controls and documented processes
• Champion data quality and integrity across the business
Skills and Experience
• Qualified accountant ACA with 5 years + experience in a senior finance role
• Experience in data analysis and working with large volumes of data
• Strong numerical skills including financial forecasting, consolidated accounts preparation, cashflow management
• Commercially focused and able to understand the requirements of the business
• Proven experience managing and developing a finance team
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to influence at senior level
• Ability to working in line with procedures with a focus on attention to detail
• Strong focus of continuous improvement
• Proficient in financial systems and Excel
Desirable
• Experience with Xero and business analytics tools
• Advanced experience in data analytics and visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI)
• Ability to interpret complex datasets and translate insights into strategic actions
• Experience building automated reporting and KPI dashboards
• Multi-currency and high-volume transaction experience
• Familiarity with ESG reporting and funding mechanisms
• Experience preparing board-level reports
• Experience in the travel industry or a regulated environment
