Overview
Our client is a growing supplier to the construction sector and seeks a highly capable and commercially minded Financial Controller to take full responsibility for the day‑to‑day management of our Finance function. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will play a key leadership position within the business and will ensure the delivery of accurate, timely, and insightful financial information to support decision‑making across the organisation.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, proven team‑management experience, and a proactive approach to improving financial processes, controls, and systems. Experience working with ERP systems is a significant advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
• Oversee all daily operations of the Finance function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
• Lead the month‑end and year‑end close processes, delivering a full suite of monthly management accounts and financial reports, within an agreed set of deadline dates.
• Lead the annual audit process and prepare financial statements in line with relevant accounting standards.
• Develop and deliver insightful financial analysis, commentary, and KPIs for senior management.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to accounting policies and compliance requirements.
• Ensure that all tax returns, in all relevant jurisdictions, are lodged in a timely manner and any outstanding taxes are paid.
• Constantly review cashflow and oversee an efficient process in credit control.
Leadership & Team Management
• Manage, mentor, and develop a Finance team of six, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and accountability.
• Allocate tasks effectively and ensure continuous development and training for team members.
• Drive process improvements and encourage best‑practice financial management across the team.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Commercial Insight
• Work closely with the CFO on the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasting cycles.
• Work closely with the CFO and senior leadership to provide commercial insights, scenario analysis, and strategic financial support.
• Support business decision‑making by identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Partner with operational and commercial teams to enhance financial understanding across the business.
Systems & Process Improvements
• Take ownership of the Finance systems landscape; experience with ERP systems is a distinct advantage.
• Constantly drive automation and efficiency within the financial processes and other areas of the business.
• Implement enhancements to reporting tools, workflows, and financial controls.
Key Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
• Qualified ACA or FCA ( You can be an experienced FCA targeting low 6figure salary or an Audit Manager in a top 10 firm looking to break into financial control in the SME space - remuneration and support will be tailored depending on the person)
• Significant post‑qualification experience in a similar Financial Controller or senior Finance role in a plus.
• Strong technical accounting background with deep knowledge of accounting standards and best practices.
• Demonstrated experience preparing monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs.
• Proven experience managing and developing a Finance team.
• ERP systems experience (implementation or optimisation experience a strong plus).
• Experience in a business with turnover in the region of €35m (or similar scale) is advantageous.
