Part-Time Family Office Investment Director & Non-Executive Director - Remote

Updated 2/April/2026
Permanent
Our client is a high net worth family seeking a Financial and strategic Investment Director & NED of their personal portfolio.
circa 2-3 days per week initially. Less in time.
Extended handover from current long-standing incumbent.
You will be a highly qualified, vastly experienced FCA with gravitas and very strong communication skills.
Likely hourly-rate of several hundred billed monthly / quarterly.
Investment experience not essential but a distinct advantage.
----------------------------
Family Office Overview
The family office is responsible for the long-term stewardship of a substantial multi-asset portfolio (circa €100 million) on behalf of a high-net-worth family. The mandate is conservative and long-term in nature, focused on capital preservation, sustainable growth, and disciplined asset allocation across public markets, private investments, and direct property holdings.
The family is seeking a senior, experienced investment professional to support this mandate on a part-time basis, providing strategic oversight, judgment, and governance rather than day-to-day execution.

Role Purpose
This is a part-time, senior advisory role, designed for an individual who brings experience, perspective, and sound judgment rather than operational bandwidth. The Investment Director will work closely with the family as a trusted advisor, helping shape investment strategy, oversee external managers, and ensure appropriate governance and risk oversight.
The role is intentionally structured to:
• Be compatible with other professional or board commitments
• Focus on strategy, oversight, and decision-making, not execution
• Avoid day-to-day portfolio management or trading responsibilities

In addition, the role includes serving as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of two family-owned operating companies.

Key Responsibilities (Part-Time Scope)
Investment Strategy & Asset Allocation
• Advise the family on long-term investment objectives, philosophy, and risk tolerance
• Help define and periodically review strategic asset allocation
• Provide perspective during major allocation or structural decisions

Oversight of External Managers & Advisors
• Agree high-level mandates with external portfolio managers
• Review performance, risk, and adherence to mandates on a periodic basis
• Act as a sounding board and constructive challenger where appropriate

Research & Decision Support (Selective, Not Continuous)
• Provide informed input on macro, market, or asset-class themes
• Review and assess significant new investment proposals
• Support decision-making on an as-needed basis rather than ongoing monitoring

Risk, Governance & Compliance Oversight
• Maintain a high-level view of risk across the overall portfolio
• Ensure appropriate governance frameworks are in place
• Liaise with professional advisors (legal, tax, compliance) as required

Reporting & Communication
• Review and discuss monthly and quarterly reports prepared by advisors or managers
• Participate in scheduled update calls or meetings with the family
• Be available for ad-hoc discussions when significant decisions arise

Tax & Structuring Oversight
• Coordinate with tax advisors to ensure investment decisions are consistent with long-term tax planning
• Provide oversight rather than hands-on tax execution or compliance

Family Advisory Role
• Act as a trusted, discreet advisor to family members
• Provide perspective during periods of market stress or transition
• Operate with sensitivity to family dynamics and confidentiality

Non-Executive Directorships (Limited, Defined Scope)
• Serve as a Non-Executive Director on two family-owned operating companies
• Provide independent judgment, governance oversight, and strategic input
• No executive or operational responsibilities

Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes
Experience & Perspective
• Senior investment, commercial, or board-level experience
• Comfortable operating at a strategic and governance level
• Experience in family offices, private capital, or owner-managed businesses is advantageous

Judgment & Independence
• Strong sense of fiduciary responsibility
• Willing and able to challenge constructively
• Independent-minded and commercially pragmatic

Communication & Trust
• Clear, calm communicator able to simplify complexity
• Comfortable advising principals directly
• High levels of discretion and integrity

Personal Fit
• Suited to a part-time, advisory role rather than a full-time executive position
• Values long-term thinking over short-term performance
• Comfortable working with limited bureaucracy and high trust
________________________________________
Time Commitment & Remuneration
Time Commitment:
• Approximately 1–2 days per week, averaged over the year
• Flexible scheduling
• Periodic intensity around reporting cycles or major decisions

Remuneration:
• Competitive part-time fee, benchmarked to senior family-office and non-executive roles
• Structured to reflect advisory scope rather than operational responsibility
