Role Overview
Our clients is looking for a detail-oriented finance professional to support legislative and internal compliance across multiple EMEA jurisdictions within a construction project environment. This role sits within the finance function and plays a key part in ensuring payroll, tax, and accounting obligations are met accurately and on time, while maintaining strong internal controls. You’ll operate across Ireland, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Finland requiring a solid understanding of cross-border compliance risks and coordination with local advisors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Legislative & Regulatory Compliance
• Monitor and ensure compliance with local statutory requirements across payroll, corporate tax, VAT, and financial reporting.
• Coordinate with external advisors and local authorities in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Finland.
• Track regulatory changes and assess their impact on project operations and finance processes.
• Support statutory audits and ensure readiness of documentation and reconciliations.
2. Payroll Compliance Oversight
• Oversee payroll compliance in multiple jurisdictions, including:
o Social security obligations
o Income tax withholding
o Construction sector-specific requirements (e.g., posted workers, site registrations)
• Liaise with HR Manager and Payroll Manager to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing.
• Validate payroll outputs and ensure proper accounting treatment.
3. Tax Compliance (Direct & Indirect)
• Support VAT compliance (through Netsuite OneWorld) across jurisdictions, including:
o Registrations
o Filings and reconciliations
o Cross-border transaction treatment
• Assist in corporate tax compliance and reporting requirements.
• Ensure alignment between accounting records and tax filings.
4. Accounting & Statutory Compliance
• Ensure local GAAP compliance and alignment with group reporting standards (e.g., IFRS where applicable).
• Support month-end and year-end close with a focus on compliance-sensitive areas.
• Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations, particularly for tax, payroll, and accruals.
5. Internal Controls & Process Governance
• Ensure adherence to internal control frameworks and company policies.
• Support implementation and monitoring of financial controls across project entities.
• Identify control gaps and recommend process improvements.
• Assist with internal and external audits, including SOX-style controls where applicable.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
• Work closely with:
o Project teams
o HR and payroll
o Tax advisors and auditors
• Act as a central point of contact for compliance-related finance queries within the project.
Key Requirements Experience
• 2/3 plus years’ experience in finance, accounting, or compliance roles.
• Exposure to multi-country EMEA environments (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Finland strongly preferred).
• Experience in construction, engineering, or project-based industries is highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with payroll compliance and indirect tax (VAT) across multiple jurisdictions.
Qualifications
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Professional qualification (ACA, CPA) preferred or in progress.
