Chartered Accountants Ireland is committed to making its website as accessible as possible for all users.
We are working towards meeting Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard. While we are partially compliant with this standard right now, we are continuously reviewing the site in order to increase compliance.
Accessibility features
Colour and contrast
Our use of colour across the site ensures there is enough contrast between the background colour and text, headings and buttons so that these are easy to read.
Users can change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings.
Assistive technologies
Users can navigate most of the website using a keyboard or screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA or VoiceOver.
Zoomed in content
Users should be able to zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen or overlapping.
Language
We aim to use plain English wherever possible, however our technical documents will contain industry specific language. We also aim to write meaningful link text that indicates to the user where the link is taking them.
If you have a disability, AbilityNet has guides on how to make your phone, tablet or computer easier to use. You can filter these guides by your condition and/or your symptoms and the adjustments needed.
Accessibility challenges
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Focus visible is not currently available for keyboard users
- You cannot skip to the main page content when using a screen reader or keyboard
- Generic link names are used for some buttons, so these are not accessible
- The expanded and collapsed state of the navigation control isn’t read to screen readers.
- Error messages on forms are not automatically announced for screen readers
- YouTube videos that are embedded on our site do not show captions unless you view them on YouTube
- Form labels are not correctly associated with their relevant inputs
- Most PDF and PowerPoint documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
- Most podcasts do not have transcripts
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We are continually reviewing the website to make improvements. We will add current and future accessibility issue to our site build cycle to be resolved, with the aim of making our site more accessible for everyone.
