Course overview

  • Environmental taxes (Deidre Hogan, EY) - The session will include an overview of the Climate Action Plan, current and proposed changes to environmental taxes, such as carbon tax, VRT taxes/motor taxes, etc. We will discuss the impact of the taxes on businesses and then consider how businesses need to think about sustainability, in general, considering these taxes and the wider agenda.
  • Tax Round Up (Kim Rowan, Chartered Accountants Ireland) - Updates regarding Irish tax policy and recent legislative changes, which areas of the Irish tax landscape are of concern to members, key topics we are engaging on with the Revenue, and the principal activities of the Institute tax team
  • Revenue Audits (Paul Dillon, Duignan Carthy O'Neill) - Update on Revenue audits and other interventions; recap on making voluntary disclosures and current penalty regime; area of concentration on Revenue audits and other interventions; common issue found on revenue audit.
  • SMEs and Taxation (Caroline McGrath, BCA)

Speaker Bio

Deirdre Hogan

Deirdre is the Head of the Indirect Tax practice at EY. She has over 14 years' experience in indirect tax, 6 of which were spent in the US working on global indirect tax matters for multinationals. Deirdre has broad experience in advising clients on indirect tax matters including compliance, planning, strategy, systems, etc. from both an Irish and international perspective.

Kimberley Rowan

Kimberley worked in the PWC tax department before moving to her current role. She a member of the Tax Administration Liaison Committee and participates in their subcommittees. She has lectured extensively on the Chartered Accountancy and Chartered Tax Consultant qualifications. She is the editor of the tax legislation series (Chartered Tax Library), the Institute's monthly tax journal tax.point and weekly tax newsletter. She also manages the Institute's online tax resource TaxSource.

Paul Dillon

Paul Dillon is a Tax Partner with Duignan Carthy O' Neill in Dublin. He is a council member of Chartered Accountants Ireland and currently chair of the Advocacy and representation Board. He is a long-term member of TALC and previously chaired Main TALC and TALC Audit.

Caroline McGrath

Partner at BCA Chartered Accountants. Formerly Caroline was a Senior Tax Manager with Deloitte and a Taxation Officer for the Revenue.
