Finance Business Partner

Role Purpose
The Finance Business Partner (FBP) will serve as a strategic and operational advisor, supporting decision-making across the organisation.
The FBP will work closely with budget holders and senior management to deliver financial insight, planning, and performance analysis aligned with the organisations objectives. This role requires strong business acumen, stakeholder management, and an understanding of not-for-profit and public interest organisations.
Key Responsibilities
Business Partnering and Strategic Support
• Partner with directorates, departments, and committees to understand financial needs and align budgets with strategic goals.
• Provide financial insight to support projects, policy initiatives, and strategic decisions.
• Develop business cases for new initiatives, including cost-benefit analysis and risk assessments.
• Support long-term financial planning and scenario modelling.
Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
• Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting process with assigned departments.
• Liaising with departments on the procurement process and business requirement documents
• Monitor financial performance against budget and forecasts; identify and investigate variances.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts tailored to stakeholders' needs.
Analysis and Reporting
• Analyse key financial and operational performance indicators to support decision-making.
• Provide tailored financial reports, dashboards, and insights for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Support external audit processes and regulatory compliance as required.
Audit, Controls and Compliance
• Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
• Identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement in financial processes and systems.
• Maintain high standards of financial control and risk management, understanding and managing financial risks.
• Identify financial challenges, analyse their root causes and develop effective solutions.
• Manage the Internal Audit programme
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
• Act as the primary finance contact for designated business units.
• Build trusted relationships across the organisation, fostering financial literacy and ownership.
• Communicate complex financial information clearly and persuasively to non-finance stakeholders.
Key Relationships
• Internal: Council. Directors, Heads of Departments, Budget Holders, Committees, Education and Training stakeholders.
• External: Auditors, Suppliers, Financial Institutions, Regulators (as required).
Person Specification
Qualifications
• Qualified ACA
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field (essential).
Experience
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role
• Proven track record in financial analysis, planning, and business partnering.
• Experience supporting strategic and operational decision-making.
Skills and Competencies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strategic thinker, ability to align financial goals with business objectives.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence and challenge constructively.
• Adaptable and flexible to changing business conditions and requirements
• Understanding industry trends and competitive dynamics.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems (e.g. Sage, SAP, Oracle).
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders to achieve common goals is crucial..
• Understanding of governance, compliance, and regulatory frameworks
