Get involved in the FRC's Digital Future project

Apr 03, 2018

The Financial Reporting Lab (the Lab) is calling for listed companies, investors/analysts, technology experts and those with interest in the potential uses of Artificial Intelligence in the production and consumption of corporate reporting to participate in the next phase of its project, Digital Future.

In 2016, the Lab launched the Digital Future project, an initiative to investigate the impact of technology on corporate reporting communications to the investment community. As part of this project, the Lab has:

  • Released a framework of characteristics that are important for a system of digital reporting;
  • Released a deep dive report on how XBRL fits into corporate reporting; and
  • Explored the possibilities of Blockchain in the corporate reporting process, the findings of which will be published shortly.
The Lab is now looking to investigate how Artificial Intelligence and related technologies (AI) are, and will be, used in the production and consumption of corporate reporting data and it needs your help. The Lab would like to hear from you if you are:
  • A preparer or service provider, working on the production of company reporting, who has either used or investigated the use of AI;
  • A technology company that is offering AI products that assist in the production or consumption of company external reporting; or
  • An investor or data provider who is using AI to assist in the consumption of company reporting.
Participation in a Lab project usually involves an individual interview of around an hour, and a round-table of about two to three hours, exploring key topics and trends.

Project timing

The Lab will carry out this project over the summer and aims to produce a report in the autumn. Those with interest in participating should email or contact Thomas Toomse-Smith (020 7492 2458) or Phil Fitz-Gerald (020 7492 2358).
