All the regions have been relatively quiet as students have been busy with exams but they have tried to host a few things, to the delight of their members! The next few months will be busy in the social calendars with the CASSI weekend being held and the welcome events and results nights in various regions. Please keep an eye on this page so you don’t miss out! CASSU  CASSU recently held a bubbles and beer night in Ten Square hotel to celebrate CAP 2 results. Plenty of drinks were had and the craic was 90! Its next events will be held in late September to welcome new trainees. There will also be drinks in October to mark FAE results. CASSM CASSM recently had a day out in Tayto Park followed by a night out in Athlone! Attendees ranged from CAP 1 to those recently qualified. CASSM is currently organising welcome events for new trainees. CASSD CASSD recently held its annual summer BBQ following the CAP 1 and CAP 2 exams. This was equally well-attended as prior years and a good night was had by all! CASSI A series of wellness events have been organised by the Leinster Society to focus in on the mental health of those in our profession. CASSI will be supporting these events and hope that, following the success of CASSU’s event last year, it will be useful to all who attend! Applications for the CASSI Weekend Away are opening in early September. The event will be held in October in Carlow. CASSI is looking forward to a fantastic weekend! On a more general note, CASSI is excited to welcome all new trainees over the next few months and will be holding welcome events across the country for all new students!

CASS Ireland CASSI recently held their AGM in Galway. We would like to congratulate our new chair, Nuala McAdams from Ulster, and the rest of the new team. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing committee for their contribution to the society and wish them all the best in the future.  The new committee have started preparing for the year ahead. Make sure to keep an eye on our social media and email for updates.  CASS Dublin On 1 March, CASSD will be watching the first Leinster game in the RDS with pre-match drinks and food in The Horse. We will then all head into town where we have an area booked in Everleigh Gardens.  Our biggest event of the year, the CASSD Ball, will be held on 9 March in Ballsbridge Hotel. We have sold the majority of our tickets now, so buy yours soon if you haven’t.   Finally, and most importantly, we have chosen our charity for the year. We have picked Empower the Family. This charity was founded in 2018 by Deborah Somorin who just qualified as Chartered Accountant. The charity’s main purpose is to support young, disadvantaged single parents in Ireland who have the determination and ability to successfully complete university. CASS Ulster CASSU hosted their annual ball on Saturday 23 February at the Culloden Estate and Spa with a Greatest Showman theme. The tickets to the ball were in high demand this year! The chosen charity was Dementia NI. CASS Galway CASSG had a very successful intake night in November, welcoming all first year trainees in each of the firms in Galway. CASSG has also recently elected this year’s CASSG committee: Chair: Shauna McGuire Vice Chair: Hilary Connaughton Treasurer: Jamie Painter Secretary: Darren Dooley PRO: Kailey Lordon CASSG will be holding their annual table quiz this March (date to be announced). Follow our Facebook page for more updates and our upcoming events.  CASS South East CASSSE have remained quiet since their FAE celebrations in the Kazbar. The committee has their next event scheduled after CAP 1 results. CASS Munster Last month, CASSM held the AGM and elected a new committee for 2019: Chair: David McNamara Vice Chair: Emer Loftus Secretary: John Hanley Education: Orla Kilroy Treasurer: Mel Farrell Events: Paul Gunning  PRO: Ciaran O’Reilly The new Committee have a number of exciting proposals for events over the coming year. Our first social event of the year is a weekend away to Westport, booked for the first weekend in March. Included in the trip are some team bonding activities and a pilgrimage to the top of Croagh Patrick.

A round-up of news and events from the Institute’s student societies around the country. CASSS CASSS continue to have their coffee mornings every three weeks, the next happening on 25 January. The bowling and go-karting from the last update was unfortunately postponed until after Christmas break, so CASSS have this to look forward to this month. The CASSS Christmas party took place on Friday 8 December with dinner and drinks in the Sligo Park Hotel, which was a fun-filled evening with a great turn out.   CASSU CASSU recently held their annual AGM and elected a largely new committee, with Ciara Flanagan elected as the new Chair. The new committee would like to extend their thanks to the previous committee for all the work they put in, particularly Katrina Bingham in her role as Chair. The new committee have been hard at work putting in early preparations for the Annual Ball in February with tickets on sale now. It’s set to be a big one! CASSU held their annual Christmas drinks at Belfast Continental Christmas Market in December. Next up, the society will hold their monthly drinks on 18 January to help students get through the long month!    CASSM CASSM would like to congratulate all members who recently enjoyed success in their FAE exams. We positively note the good results recorded across the region. The committee held a hugely enjoyable FAE results night in the Junction, Athlone to celebrate the successes of our members.  To those who didn’t quite get over the line – don’t lose heart and reach out to your committee for guidance in any area where assistance is needed.  The final event of the year was the annual 12 pubs of Christmas, held in Athlone on Friday 21 December. This event is a mainstay of the CASSM calendar, and one that all our members thoroughly enjoyed.   CASSM would also like to congratulate our vice-Chair, David McNamara, on his recent engagement. We wish him and his partner all the best in the future.   CASSI CASSI have remained quiet since the Annual Conference in November. However, the AGM will be held in February – date TBC. A round-up of news and events from the Institute’s student societies around the country. CASS Ireland CASSI is currently making arrangements for its annual weekend away, which will take place from 19-21 October 2018. Students can apply for tickets from 10am on Monday 3 September 2018. The event will be hosted at the four-star Mount Wolsely and the entire hotel will be booked out for the event. CASS Sligo In July, CASSS welcomed CASSI to Sligo with a very successful meeting, dinner and night out on the town. At the meeting, Chartered Accountants Student Society Limerick was also welcomed to CASSI. Meanwhile, CASSS hosted its most recent coffee morning on 10 August 2018 and the society was represented at the Chartered Accountants North West Society night out at the Sligo Races on Thursday 9 August. CASS Midlands It has been a quiet time of year for CASSM with many members on study leave for the FAE exams. However, the Committee has been busy making arrangements for upcoming social events. At the time of writing, the committee was looking forward to a relaxing cruise on the Shannon, which has been booked for Friday 24 August. Bay Sports, located at the Hodson Bay Hotel, has also been booked for Saturday 15 September and will be a great chance for members to enjoy themselves after the stressful exam period. Most of the new batch of students in the Midlands region will start work by the first week in September and will hopefully get involved in this event. CASSM is also planning a trip to the greyhounds in Mullingar, which is planned for the end of September. CASS Dublin August was a month of celebration and focus for the students and members of CASSD. CAP1 and CAP2 celebrations took place in the Jar and Dicey’s respectively, with the latter doubling up as the CASSD summer BBQ. Both locations were filled to the rafters as students enjoyed the sun, drinks and barbeque. It was a fantastic event all round, with the venue fully reserved for CASSD members. Congratulations to all involved. CASS South-East CASSSE organised a night out in Waterford on 17 August to celebrate the CAP 2 exam results. In September, CASSSE will host a race night in Gowran Park. More details to follow. CASS Limerick CASSL is putting plans in place to re-establish the committee after a period of inactivity. While things are quiet now, CASSL looks forward to representing Limerick students again in the near future. CASS Galway To celebrate the end of the CAP2 exams, CASSG hosted a night out in An Púcan. A great time was had by all and it finally gave students a chance to enjoy the sunshine. On 16 August, CASSG hosted a cocktail-making event to bid farewell to the summer months in Coyote’s Bar in Galway. And at the time of writing, the committee was busy planning an event to celebrate the end of the FAE exams.

CASS Sligo CASSS had their regular coffee morning on 14 July. CASSS has organised a day out at the Sligo Races (Ladies Day) 10 August. They are also in the process of organising an event to celebrate the end of the FAEs in August/September. The CASSS committee would like to wish all those students doing the FAEs in August the best of luck!  CASS Galway CASSG held their annual tag rugby game followed by dinner after on Tuesday night. Winners of best boy and best girl were Darren Dooley and Elaine Maguire.

The sun is shining and everyone is heading away on their holidays which can only mean one thing – exam time for all Chartered Accountants Ireland students. Fortunately for you, CASSI is here to help. On Friday 5 May, we will be having the annual CASSI Mystery Tour. This is an inter-regional event and a great last night out before revision. As we are approaching exam season, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all students that we are here to help and lend support. If you have any feedback or concerns about exams, revision, length of study leave etc., please let us know. If we cannot advise you directly, we will be able to put you in contact with someone who can help. Contact the education officer directly on education@cassi.ie or leave a message on Facebook. The Institute recently underwent a huge transformation, to modernise and improve the website and all social media pages. CASSI were involved in this process, liaising with the Institute and ensuring students’ needs were met. If you have any issues or concerns about the new website, please let us know.   Finally, we would like to wish all CAP1 students good luck. Professional exams can be different and daunting at first but your approach should be no different than it always has been: stay calm, eat healthy, get into a good routine and do as many questions as you can. Good Luck CASSC Update The CASSC Annual Charity Ball took place on 22 April in the Clayton Hotel, Cork City and held in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. A great time was had by the 100 attendees from the Cork region. Attendees were kept entertained by a live Band (named UV5) followed by a DJ until late, with other surprises on the night including a photo booth, chocolate fountain and an Electric Picnic ticket giveaway. The final donation tally is still to be confirmed, but over €1,000 will be making its way to the charity thanks to the event. Attendees were kept entertained by the live band UV5 followed by a DJ. Roll on the 2018 Ball! CASSU CASSU have had a busy April. They saw the return of the annual CASSU comedy night held at the Empire Music Hall, Belfast on 25 April. The night was a great success, with plenty of food, socialising and laughs. Some of the attendees finished off the evening with a meet and greet with some of the comedy acts. Keen to fit in as many events as possible before the majority of CAP1 and CAP2 students commenced study leave, CASSU hosted send-off drinks at our usual end-of-the-month venue of Morrissons, Belfast on 28 April. CASSU are planning a number of exciting events over the summer months, including the annual summer BBQ and taking part in a charity dragon boat regatta. Details will be circulated with members soon. CASSS CASSS held a coffee morning on 21 April. The next one is scheduled for 12 May. Look for an email from CASSS for more information. CASSS have booked a night of pampering at the Solas Spa at the Radisson Blue Hotel in Sligo for Ladies Night, organised by the NorthWest Society on 4 May.  CASSD CASSD hosted a table quiz on 6 April in aid of Pieta House. CASSD are delighted to report that they raised a total of €657.70 on the night. CASSD also hosted an event in conjunction with Leinster Rugby and the Chartered Accountants Leinster Society on the 28 April for an evening of pre-game food, drinks and tickets to see Leinster take on Glasgow Warriors in the RDS.  To celebrate the end of CAP1 exams, CASSD will be providing celebratory drinks and food in the JAR on Wexford Street on 26 May. CASSD will also be hosting their annual summer BBQ in July which is sure to be a fantastic event and has been enjoyed by all in previous years.
