CA Support (Chartered Accountants Support) was originally established as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland Benevolent Fund in 1928. Its purpose was to provide relief for accountants and their families suffering severe urgent distress, sickness, accident or other calamity.
From the start it was recognised that inability to work, due to age, accident, illness, or other problem might lead to poverty or financial hardship, and therefore to a need for relief.
In the late 1980s the Benevolent Fund was revitalised and two legal entities were incorporated and registered as charities; Institute of Chartered Accountants Benevolent Association (Ireland) Ltd., and its sister company, Institute of Chartered Accountants Benevolent Association (Northern Ireland) Ltd.
In 2015, the Benevolent Association was rebranded as Chartered Accountants Support following an expansion of the service to incorporate a wider range of supports for members, students and their families.
