Groups and committees directory
Institute activities are enhanced and supported in an invaluable way by members and others who give their time and expertise, often on a voluntary basis. Working groups, committees and boards are some of the ways members can represent their profession or sector, support members and advance strategic objectives. The listing below shows groups that are currently active, some of which accept volunteers.
Members can read the membership of each committee as per 31 December in a given year in our Annual Reports.
Special Interest and Network Groups
These groups facilitate networking and connection opportunities for members in specific sectors or with shared interests.
- Balance LGBTI+ Allies network group (part of the D&I committee)
- Charities and Not-for-Profit
- Ethnicity network group (part of the D&I committee)

- Risk Management & Internal Audit
- Technology Committee – interacts with other committees to inform on emerging issues and best practice.
- Business Network Groups
Committees reporting to the Members Board
- Diversity and Inclusion – raises awareness of inclusion issues and supports members around D&I, ensuring that the profession is accessible to all.
- Members in Business – represents members working in business and industry.
- Members in Practice – discusses general and specific views of small and medium-sized general practitioners.
- Public Sector – supports and represents the interests of members working in the public sector in Ireland, north and south.
- Young Professionals – focuses on the needs of ACA members (under ten years qualified) by organising events, including CPD, networking and interprofessional get-togethers.
- Interim Managers (CAAIM) – network of members offering their expertise as interim managers and executives.
Committees reporting to the Education, Training and Lifelong Learning Board
- Appeals
- Chartered Tax Consultant (CTC) – oversees the Chartered Tax Consultant programme and its assessment.
- Education Quality Assurance (QA) – provides operational governance to ensure the highest standards in all aspects of the education offering are maintained.
- FAE Committee
- Professional Development – oversees the direction of travel for Professional Development, inputting to strategy and design of both CPD and Specialist Qualifications.
- Professional Examinations
Committees reporting to the Advocacy and Representation Board
- Ethics and Governance – promotes the practice of ethical business behaviours and development of good governance among the accountancy profession and wider business community.
- Representation and Technical Policy – sits above a number of subcommittees, listed below
- Thought Leadership and Publishing – develops thought leadership that resonates with members on issues affecting the profession and the wider economy.
- Tax Committee North – responsible for advising on taxation issues in NI and among its activities it makes regular submissions on relevant tax consultations.
- Tax Committee South (CCAB-I)
- Strategic Communications – advances the Institute’s external profile, policy formulation and strategic planning, and advises on the execution of its strategic communications plan.
Representation and Technical Policy subcommittees
- Audit and Assurance Technical Committee – considers and addresses a range of assurance and audit matters and associated review activities on behalf of the Institute.
- Financial Reporting Technical Committee – monitors developments affecting local and international accounting standards in Ireland and the UK and responds to revevant consultations.
- Insolvency Technical Committee – NI – works on behalf of the accountancy profession in NI on relevant technical and other matters in corporate and personal insolvency.
- CCAB-I Insolvency – works on behalf of CCAB-I on relevant technical and other matters in corporate and personal insolvency.
- Business Law
