Those were the words of Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe appearing before the Budgetary Oversight Committee last week. Earlier this year, the Minister deferred the revaluation date until 1 November 2020 in order to allow time to look at options to remodel local property tax (LPT). LPT generated around €480 million last year and the Minister during his speech said he would like to have a “model of band widening combined with LPT rate changes” and would like the “tax to play a more significant and positive role in our overall taxation system”.
