Revenue is undertaking reviews of Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) compliance on a risk assessment basis. Following representations from Chartered Accountants Ireland, Revenue confirmed that it will not issue EWSS compliance check letters, which require a seven-day turnaround, until at least Monday, 22 November in recognition of the fact that this is an extremely busy period for taxpayers and their agents. Revenue also confirmed that a response would not be sought on any non-urgent letters that have issued to date until at least Monday, 22 November.
Chartered Accountants Ireland requested that EWSS review letters be put on hold until the week of 22 November as the accountancy profession are under as much pressure this year as was the case in 2020. Chartered Accountants Ireland also sought assurances that a blanket review of EWSS is not undertaken similar to the TWSS review of all 66,000 employers who claimed the subsidy. Revenue confirmed that the EWSS compliance check letters are issuing to taxpayers on a risk assessment basis where a potential risk is identified by Revenue.
