Last month, Finance Minister Conor Murphy launched a consultation on devolution of fiscal powers to Northern Ireland. The announcement follows the earlier work of the Independent Fiscal Commission NI which published its final report in May this year. This consultation on fiscal devolution for Northern Ireland runs until Tuesday 29 November. It’s not too late to tell us your views on this important consultation – we’re still accepting your feedback until 5pm on Monday 21 November.
The Department of Finance is seeking formal stakeholder engagement on the recommendations made by the Fiscal Commission earlier this year in order to inform policy considerations and next steps that can be presented by an incoming Finance Minister to the Executive.
This will likely be a long-term journey as it has been in Scotland and Wales. The Department views further fiscal devolution as having the potential to meaningfully impact all citizens in NI hence it intends to maintain engagement with stakeholders, both through this consultation, and as this work progresses.
Responses to this consultation are welcomed from all groups and individuals. The questions are provided as a guide for any response, but the Department welcomes any views or comments on the subject.
Responses can be made by completing the online form or emailing your responses to spd@finance-ni.gov.uk. Chartered Accountants Ireland encourages members to engage with this consultation and respond to the matters raised.
