Using a GB EORI number to apply to UK Trader Scheme – HMRC confirmation
Last week we updated readers about the changes introduced last month when traders register for an XI EORI number. One of the changes included the case of where a trader does not have their main establishment in Northern Ireland, or they do not have a permanent business establishment in the region, they will only be able to register for an XI EORI number in specific cases.
Under the UK Trader Scheme, businesses that are not established in NI and without a fixed place of business in NI can continue to use the UK Trader Scheme beyond 31 October 2021 as a result of the UK government announcing on 6 September that it will continue to operate the Protocol on its current basis.
HMRC has confirmed to us that the UK Trader Scheme application guidance has been changed to reflect that the applicant may have a GB EORI when applying to use the UK Trader Scheme under the fixed place of business easement and will therefore not need an XI EORI for the purpose of using the scheme.
