In this week’s EU exit corner, HMRC has sent another reminder email with EU trade tips, we’re seeking your feedback on the Customs Declarations Service and we bring you the latest guidance updates published on GOV.UK. See also our most recent EU exit bulletin which features every Friday in Chartered Accountants News.
The Customs Declaration Service – we need your feedback
From 31 March 2023, the Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (“CHIEF”) will no longer be able to be used for imports and exports from the UK. From that date, all businesses will need to declare goods through the Customs Declaration Service (“CDS”).
The CDS is already being used for Northern Ireland and Rest of World declarations and HMRC is keen to hear your feedback on how this system is working so far. Email brexit@charteredaccountants.ie with your comments.
Ahead of the 31 March 2023 complete closure, services on CHIEF are being withdrawn in two stages:-
- 30 September 2022: import declarations closed on CHIEF; and
- 31 March 2023: export declarations close on CHIEF / National Exports System (NES)
