Speaker Bio

Joe Carroll – Head of Professional Development, Chartered Accountants Ireland

Joe has worked for Chartered Accountants Ireland over 15 years is currently Head of Professional Development.  He graduated from UCD with a BA Hons in Medieval and Modern History Diploma and subsequently continued his education completing a Diploma in Executive Coaching from Irish Management Institute, a MSc Education Leadership from Dublin City University, a Certificate in Adult Guidance and Counselling, Maynooth University and a HDip Education Studies, University College Dublin and a Certificate in Technology Risk and Data Incident Management. 

Robert Kirk – University of Ulster

Robert is an Emeritus Professor of Financial Reporting at Ulster University. He has lectured extensively within Ireland and Great Britain on accounting standards to diverse organisations such as British Gas Plc, British Aerospace Plc, NATO, Bank of Ireland, John Laing Plc, Deloitte and Reed International Plc. He has lectured on IFRS standards to major companies in Cyprus, United States, Bahrain, South Africa, Zambia and Ghana. He has published 15 books on the subject in Ireland and GB

John Darby - Solicitor

John Darby, BCL, is a Senior Legal Counsel with PM Group.  He has been practising as a solicitor in Ireland since 1997 and is a member of the Law Society of Ireland.  He qualified and practised for ten (10) years in leading Irish law firm, McCann FitzGerald.  John has also practised in-house with Diageo plc, Bord Gais Eireann and the Coca-Cola Company.  John’s main areas of practise are corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance.  He has advised numerous domestic and international clients in a wide variety of business sectors, including project management, media, motor distribution, telecommunications and food and agri. John is also a frequent speaker in the areas of corporate and company law and is a lecturer on the Law Society’s Professional Course on Business Law and its Diploma Courses on Company Law and Corporate Governance.

Jill O’Reilly – O’Reilly People Management

Jill is an Executive Coach and Leadership Consultant at O’Reilly People Management.  Jill works with individuals and leadership teams to make sense of all of the noise and to take action so that they can thrive personally and professionally. 

Jayson Moran - Psychologist & Speaker

Jayson is a psychologist who specialises in helping leaders, professionals entrepreneurs, and their teams and organisations move forward and develop.  His background is in the psychology of performance, development and wellbeing. His company Jayson Moran Psychology & Coaching provides 1:1 Coaching, Talks, Workshops, as well as Wellbeing & Development Programs.

Jayson is a full member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and studied Psychology in both  Trinity College Dublin and University College Cork. He is a recently published researcher and also a full member of the European Mentoring & Coaching Council (EMCC). He also runs the popular Meetup Group:  Practical Psychology - Performance, Development & Wellbeing.

Philip Maguire - Glenidan Consultancy Ltd.

Philip Maguire is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Accountant who received his designation while employed at Ernst & Young (formerly Clarkson Gordon) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor finalist.  Philip is a principal in Glenidan Consultancy Ltd., an accounting practice that specializes in Compliance and Internal Audit. Philip has over 30 years of business experience in Canada, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Ireland and the United States.  He is a member of the Accounting Standards Board Insurance Accounting Task ForceAssociates Group: the Ontario Securities Commission’s Continuous Disclosure Advisory Committee: the Steering Committee of XBRL Canada: and the Committee on Corporate Reporting of Financial Executives International (Canada). Philip has been a guest speaker on several television shows such as The Prosperity Show, Money in the Bank and Your Wealth and has contributed many articles to the Canada Business Wire on matters dealing with personal finance. He is a former Chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ontario Division, Mississauga Chapter.

Dr Louise Gorman – Trinity College Dublin

Louise Gorman is an Assistant Professor in Finance at Trinity College Dublin and has lectured and researched in the areas of accounting, finance, corporate governance and sustainability reporting up to professional and executive levels. She is a non-executive director and regularly contributes to publications and events in the areas of corporate governance and sustainability at national and international level in the academic and professional communities. 

Morna Canty-Ahern – Brass Tax Consultancy

Morna is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Consultant, working as an Assistant Lecturer in Taxation with Technology University of Shannon Midwest. Morna has significant experience in the Finance sector, having started her career in practice, she has worked for several high-profile companies across the public and private sector.  Morna has her own boutique tax firm, Brass Tax Consultancy based in the Midwest area.

Tom Penman (Tax and Training Ltd)

Tom specialises in complex tax planning, structuring groups of companies, international tax, enquiries, providing tax efficient succession and inheritance tax planning and deals with all aspects of income tax and capital gains tax

Nicolas Compton (Barrister at Law)

Nicolas Compton was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2015 and am currently accepting instructions in all practice areas.

Nicolas's practice is largely focussed on civil litigation in the County Court and High Court. I have particular experience of commercial disputes, land and property disputes, matters relating to individual and corporate insolvency, and company and partnership disputes. I also have experience of acting in Judicial Review proceedings, and appear for both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injuries claims
