2024 Chartered Star

We are thrilled to announce the list of finalists for the 2024 Chartered Star award.

This competition attracted a large number of high-quality entries from members and students across the island, representing different stages of their Chartered journey and their efforts to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The five shortlisted finalists have demonstrated the outstanding work being done by our Chartered community in this space.

You can hear from each of them in their own words as they discuss their journeys, commitment to the SDGs, and plans for the future below. Our winner will have the opportunity to attend the One Young World Summit in Montreal, Canada, this September, representing Chartered Accountants Ireland and Chartered Accountants Worldwide.

Caoimhe Connolly

Tax Associate, CavanaghKelly
Coming from a farming background and passionate about communicating and connecting with people from all backgrounds, Caoimhe’s focus on the SDGs spans across financial literacy, gender equality, and climate. From her blog empowering young people with the fundamentals of personal finance to assisting in establishing the new ESG team within her firm CavanaghKelly, on which she is involved on the planet team, Caoimhe’s passion for the SDGs informs both the personal and professional

Claire Doyle

Manager - International Tax, PTC Therapeutics
Claire’s commitment to the UN SDGs led her to her current role, driven by her desire to work somewhere with a tangible positive impact on people’s lives. Not content to just settle into her new role, Clare recently undertaken a diploma in Sustainable Financial Technology & Innovation with Maynooth University and established herself as EMEA Lead for PTC’s Women’s International Network, which celebrates women’s ambition and tackles the issues unique to women in the workplace.

Evan O'Donnell

Assurance Associate, PwC
Having just completed his FAE exams, Evan has committed to the UN SDGs through all levels of his education, championing several projects across his work and personal life. He is committed to continuously expanding his understanding of the UN SDGs and their interaction, as well as that of his colleagues and peers. Evan is a proud ambassador for the profession through his previous work with CASSI and current involvement with the ACA Professionals and ESG Network.

Joseph Grant

Financial Accountant - External Reporting and Compliance, Primark

Joseph’s educational journey and experience as a young carer drive his passion for quality, accessible education. Beginning his Chartered journey through an apprenticeship with ATI, Joseph’s ‘road less travelled’ pathway to chartered accountancy has made him a proud ambassador for the profession. It has also given him the ability to understand a wide range of perspectives, which informs his work organising, speaking and advocating with the ACA Professionals Committee and on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community.

Ruairi McCormack

Tax Consulting Associate, KPMG Ireland
Currently undertaking his training contract with KMPG, where a recent secondment opened his eyes to the scope and potential of the sustainable blue economy, Ruairi has already firmly focused his career and future goals on advancing the UN SDGs. Ruairi is active in various grassroots volunteer roles and community initiatives, including GAA, and participates in big-picture, SDG-focused professional development and leadership programmes, all while balancing his chartered studies.
