Leave a gift in your will

After you’ve ensured that your family and friends are taken care of, leaving a gift to CA Support will stand as a wonderful testament to your support for members of the accountancy community and their families who have fallen on hard times.

You don't need to be wealthy to give a significant gift to CA Support. And you can make a substantial contribution that costs nothing during your lifetime.

Legacies left to charities are completely tax-free. They are not subject to Inheritance Tax, so this means that 100% of any gift you leave will go directly to CA Support.

If you’re considering leaving a legacy to CA Support, the first thing you should do is consult your solicitor for advice.

If you already have a will, it’s easy to amend it to include a gift to CA Support. This change is called a “Codicil” and can be drawn up easily by your solicitor.

There are four simple ways to leave your legacy gift in your will:

  1. Make a gift of a specific sum (pecuniary): No amount is too big or small. Whatever you can afford after family and friends are taken care of is priceless to members of the accountancy community who are suffering real hardship.

“I give the sum of €_______ to CA Support and I direct that the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said Organisation shall be proper and sufficient discharge for the same.”

  2. Leave part of your estate (residuary): This is a share of your estate that hasn’t been promised to family or friends. These kinds of gifts are enormously valuable in supporting our work.

“I give to CA Support a fraction [insert fraction] of the residue of my estate, and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other officer for the time being of the said Organisation shall be a full and sufficient discharge of the same.”

  3. Donate a particular gift or item (specific): This is where you generously select a specific item of value like stocks, shares, jewellery, property, the proceeds of a life assurance policy or other valuable items.

“I bequeath [the item specified] to CA Support and I direct that the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said Organisation shall be proper and sufficient discharge for the same.”

  4. An addition to a will (codicil): If you have already written a will but would like to leave a gift for CA Support in your will you can ask a solicitor to make an addition (codicil) to your original will. A codicil is simple to add and is signed in the same way as your original will, with a witness present.
