Speakers and panellists

Neil Hughes, FCA, Managing Partner, Baker Tilly Ireland. With many years’ experience in advising Irish businesses, Neil specialises primarily in corporate recovery. He has extensive experience of examinership matters and is one of the leading experts in Ireland’s formal rescue process, having acted as examiner in hundreds of examinership cases. Neil has also lectured widely on the topic of restructuring. He contributes regularly to the print and broadcast media on business matters.

Adrian Cummins, CEO Restaurants Association of Ireland. Adrian has significantly increased RAI membership as well as established a National Restaurants Awards program, in the form of The Irish Restaurants Awards. With a keen interest in politics and current affairs, Adrian has played a dominant role in lobbying for issues that impact the Restaurant Sector and in particular the cost of doing business and being an employer in Ireland. Adrian also founded the “Foodie Destination Award” to highlight talent in the restaurant industry and represents Ireland at a European level at HOTREC, the hospitality industry lobby group in the EU.

Dessie Morrow, ACA, Director, Corporate Recovery Team, Baker Tilly Ireland. Dessie is Director at Baker Tilly and has worked with its Corporate Recovery team since 2006. He has extensive examinership experience, both acting as examiner and from his work in over 150 examinership cases. He recently contributed to the Chartered Accountants Ireland publication, A Practical Guide to Examinership, by Neil Hughes.

Fergal O'Brien, Director of Lobbying & Influence, IBEC. Feargal leads and coordinates the organisation’s activity across a range of business policy issues and public affairs activity. He represents Irish business on a number of forums at both national and EU level and is currently the Chair of Business Europe’s Economic Policy Committee; a member of the National Competitiveness Council and a council member of the Foundation for Fiscal Studies. Fergal is a regular commentator on the economy and domestic and international policy issues. Prior to joining IBEC in 2005, Fergal worked for as an Economic Consultant with Fitzpatrick Associates, where he delivered a large number of consultancy assignments for a range of public and private sector clients. He also worked as an economist with the Irish Dairy Board.

Julie Murphy-O'Connor, Partner and Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyer, Matheson. Julie has over 20 years’ experience in financial services litigation, corporate insolvency and restructuring, corporate, shareholder and cross-border disputes. Julie regularly advises on fraud claims, freezing orders, asset recovery and tracing, trust issues, directors’ duties and enforcement matters and has considerable experience in both cross-border and domestic restructurings, enforcement actions and workouts.

Dee Moran, FCA, Professional Accountancy Leader, Chartered Accountants Ireland. Dee has significant experience in both practice and business, where she worked in insolvency and in industry. The Professional Accountancy team is responsible for a broad technical policy agenda of relevance to the Institute and its membership and works to coordinate policy approaches and develop guidance for members.
