The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in force since 25 May 2018, gives enhanced powers to the Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) and enhances the rights of individuals (data subjects). Organisations are required to review how they collect and store personal data, as well as how they contact customers and clients, to ensure compliance with the new Regulation. The consequences for organisations of being in breach of the GDPR can include large fines by the DPC and/or being sued in court by data subjects. Now is the time for businesses to check and ensure they have made the changes necessary to be GDPR-ready. In doing so, they should consult with their Chartered Accountant.
Chartered Accountants Ireland have created an easy-to-follow booklet, which is a client service summarising the key aspects and requirements of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and came into force on 25 May 2018. This 6-page booklet is available in print or as a PDF, which you can brand and send to your clients. Contents of the booklet include:
- Why is the GDPR Important?
- Key Changes Under the GDPR
- What You Need to Do about the GDPR
- The Main Principles of the GDPR
- How to Do It: 12 Steps to GDPR Compliance
