Our most popular CPD event of the year, the CPD Blitz series returns in 2024 with 3 in person events and 2 virtual events, specifically tailored for their respective jurisdictions. Attracting 10 CPD hours per event these sessions have been carefully curated to include subject material that addresses the latest technical updates in financial reporting, CSRD developments, taxation and company law.   • Keynote speaker: Professor Joe Peppard, Academic Director at the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School - Beyond the hype - getting real with AI. Using real-world examples, Professor Peppard will look at businesses that have effectively implemented AI to achieve specific goals and measurable returns. Success stories show how focusing on targeted use cases, rather than hype, leads to meaningful outcomes in industries like healthcare, finance, and logistics. However, he will also highlight where AI solutions are still developing or require more robust frameworks.                      
  • Keynote speaker (Cork event) : Marie Toft, CEO and Co-founder of Emotionise - Where to Start? Understanding and Implementing AI. In this informative keynote address, Marie will outline her fascinating AI journey and delve beyond the hype to assess what AI is delivering today. As she explains, the future of Gen AI is niche, and she will reveal how to find value and Return on Investment for this transformational technology. Marie will explore the ethics of AI and the implications of the EU AI Act, and she will address the perceived barriers to AI adoption - data privacy & security. With her own real life experience, she will reveal the best way to prepare workforces for the huge changes ahead and how to navigate this brave new world.

  • John Darby, BCL, Senior Legal Counsel with PM Group - John will give a whistle-stop tour of the most important developments and changes in company law over the last 12 months. 

  • Aisling Garry, Solicitor KPMG - Aisling will delve into recent developments and changes in company law over the last 12 months.

  • Dympna Cassidy, Director Deloitte Ireland  -Dympna will provide an accounting update on IFRS including IFRS 18 and IFRS 19 in conjunction with an update on Irish and UK GAAP including FRED 82.

  • Brian Murphy, Partner Deloitte Ireland - For the majority of private companies, the CSRD regulation will kick in for 2025-year ends, are you ready prepared for this substantial change in corporate reporting? This session will take you through the key steps to take over the coming months. 

  • Paul Murphy, Principal of Martin J. Kelly & Co - Paul will deliver a quick fire session on the latest developments and updates across the main tax headings in 2024. 

    (NI) Tom Penman, TTTL – Tom will provide a summary of the main changes in NI tax in 2024.

    (NI) Dr Louise Gorman, Trinity College Dublin – Louise will outline the main sustainability reporting updates over the past 12 months.

    (NI) Anne Deery, Solicitor – Anne’s session will focus on recent Company Law updates. 
  • Julie Healy, KPMG and Stephen Keohane, KPMG - Julie and Stephen will be discussing the latest Tax updates at the CPD Blitz in Cork.

  • Dr Louise Gorman, Trinity College Dublin - Assessing company performance through Financial Statement analysis (ROI/NI). How to extract pertinent and valuable information from analysing a set of financial statements.

  • Dr Louise Gorman, Trinity College Dublin - A detailed guide to IFRS 18 (ROI/NI). A review of IFRS 18 key requirements and comparisons with IAS 1.  

  • Susan Rossney, Chartered Accountants Ireland - Sustainability, everything you need to know but are afraid to ask (ROI/NI). This session will cover and review the main sustainability definitions, the policy landscape, how sustainability works in practice, including the application of sustainability principles to a small/medium enterprise.

  • Jayson Moran, Jason Moran Psychology - Critical thinking, an introduction to cognitive bias and strategies to combat it (ROI/NI). This session explores some common thinking traps we fall into about ourselves, those we relate to, and the situations we find ourselves in - as well strategies to combat these. 

  • James Bradley, experienced Tax lecturer - Deep Dive On BIK's (ROI). James will conduct a deep dive into the calculations and tax administration of Benefit in Kinds.

  • Stephen Lowry, Chartered Accountants Ireland - Pension auto-enrolment (ROI). Stephen will address the main issues surrounding the impending introduction of pension auto-enrolment.

  • Keith Power, PwC - EU AI Act (ROI). Keith will detail the main provisions of the EU AI Act that you need to know.

  • Antje Derks (Chartered Accountants Worldwide) - Being your own advocate at work (ROI/NI). This session will explore how everyone can succeed in employment by the application of general advocacy and the need to address neurodiversity in the workplace.

  • Shaun Gilbride, Deloitte - Data Acquisition and Normalisation (ROI/NI). In this concise, high-impact session, learn the essentials of data acquisition and how to transform raw data into meaningful insights.

  • Alison McClenahan, Extra Tax Training - Making Tax Digital (NI) 

    Gain a clear understanding of how HMRC's Making Tax Digital initiative can help individuals and businesses streamline their tax processes and stay on top of their obligations with ease.

  • Paul has lectured with the Irish Tax Institute for the past 25 years and is a speaker for a number of accountancy bodies on their professional development panels.

  • Julie is a Cork-based tax director in KPMG Ireland, specialising in private enterprise and family businesses.
  • Julie started her career with KPMG 15 years ago. She provides tax compliance, tax structuring and tax advisory services. Julie’s experience covers a range of tax advisory projects including group restructures, mergers and due diligences.
  • She has a special interest in advising clients in relation to succession planning for family businesses.

Stephen Keohane

  • She is a tutor of contract law and European Union Law at Queen’s University Belfast’s School of Law.

  • Tom is a highly experienced tax professional with a distinguished career. He began as an HMRC Inspector, eventually becoming the Head of the Edinburgh Tax Office.
  • Following his tenure at HMRC, Tom joined EY as a Director of Tax Risk Management for the UK & Ireland.
  • He then became a Partner of Tax at Baker Tilly. Tom joined PGR Advisory this year to provide expert assistance in enquiry mitigation and resolution.

  • Louise contributes to publications and events in the areas of corporate governance and ESG at national and international level in the academic and professional communities.
