Our client is a prestigious secondary school seeking a Finance Lead / Financial Controller responsible for overseeing the finance function for the organisation and key projects.
The role is a mix of finance and project management and requires somebody to work 3 days.
Summary of Position :
Support the Bursar, as a member of a management team in all financial matters including the day-to-day operation of the school’s finances and encompassing general and financial administrative tasks to ensure the smooth financial and operational management of the school.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Financial & Accountancy :
Support the Bursar in all Financial matters.
Prepare the annual budget in conjunction with the Bursar for approval by the Finance Committee and the Board of Management.
Prepare the annual Financial Statements and liaise with the School’s Auditors.
Prepare monthly Management Accounts, Forecasts and Bank Reconciliations for submission to the Finance Committee
Prepare the Agenda for the Finance Committee meetings and record the Minutes of meetings.
Monitor actual spend against approved budget and liaise with budget holders and the Bursar to ensure any overspends are approved in advance.
Be commercially astute with a proven ability to evaluate financial impacts on the business.
Be a key sponsor of finance related projects.
Cash Management :
Collaborate with the Board of Management on the treasury activities ensuring robust controls are in place.
Manage all School Bank Accounts ensuring appropriate controls are in place
Manage accounts payable and receivable.
Set up fees on Fee Master & Sage 200 for ad hoc trips and events and liaise with relevant personnel on receipts.
Liaise with Supervised Study Post Holder on Receipts.
Implement appropriate payment procedures in line with FSSU guidelines and 1st authorizer for payments on Internet Banking School Fees
Issue all School Fee Invoices
Set up Direct Debits and ensure accurate collections monthly or annually.
Liaise with parents on overdue debts and agree, where possible, payment schedules.
Liaise with Debt Collectors where no engagement by debtor. Letting School Facilities
Work with existing and new external organisations renting school facilities to ensure smooth running while maximizing revenue source.
Requirements :
Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA or FCA ) with 2-3 years’ experience minimum
Highly organised and numerate with excellent attention to detail.
Decisive, strong influencing skills and facilitator of proactive teamwork and collaboration
Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Ability to anticipate challenges and create pro-active solutions
Knowledge of Sage 200, Excel, Micro soft 365, Sage Payroll, Revenue returns, Fee Master 200
