Thinking of resigning?
If you are considering resignation, whether due to a career change, a career break, financial concerns or simply reassessing your membership, it’s important to understand your options first.
In many cases, keeping your membership may be easier and more cost-effective than
resigning and reapplying later.

want to support you in maintaining your membership wherever possible. If you are

If you decide to resign, we will guide you through the next steps and provide the
resignation form. Please note that this form is not available online and can’t be
accepted without contacting us first.
Terms of resignation
If, following a conversation with our team, you proceed with resignation then please
note the following:
- You will no longer be able to describe yourself as a Chartered Accountant
- Resignations take effect from the date they are processed and cannot be backdated. Subscription fees for the current year may still apply.
- In line with Institute byelaws, you will be asked to return your certificate of membership as part of the process
- Under Byelaw 6.4, where a complaint has been made or comes to the attention of the Head of Professional Conduct, a resignation will not take effect until all related disciplinary matters have been concluded.
Implications of resignation
If you wish to proceed with resignation, please be aware that resignation of your
membership means:

You must remove the Chartered Accountant designation from CVs, LinkedIn, all online profiles, business cards or professional materials.
- Access to member services, supports and benefits will cease.
- Returning to membership at a later date involves additional costs and requirements
What happens if I don’t renew my subscription?
If you do not renew your membership, or pay your subscription, your membership may be ceased under Institute byelaws.
