What is the Institute doing to represent its members?
The Institute’s public policy team launched a series of initiatives to gather the views of members across the island of Ireland on the issue of childcare earlier this year. The feedback received offered a compelling insight into the difficulties working parents in the profession currently face in accessing appropriate, affordable childcare across both jurisdictions. We are currently working on a policy position and have begun to meet various stakeholders across the island on this important issue.
We, under the auspices of CCAB-I are also engaged with the Department of Education to prioritize the introduction of a new specification for Leaving Certificate Accounting which will better reflect the role of the accountant in today's workplace.
We are involved in the development of the National Financial Literacy Strategy, in liaison with the Department of Finance and other stakeholders.
We continue to meet with officials in the UK in relation to issues that have arisen as a result of the UK’s departure from the EU. The Institute sits on the Domestic Advisory Group tasked with overseeing the implementation of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement in place between the UK and the EU.
We liaise with the Department of Finance and Revenue officials on the need to simplify business administration in Ireland. There is a wide recognition that businesses are faced with increased administration and bureaucracy as a result of new tax law and business schemes. We are working on measures to simplify and reduce the administration burden on businesses.
We have a hub of resources to help Chartered Accountants understand sustainability and how it will help them respond to business challenges. Find publications, interviews, articles, webinars, podcasts, information on how to finance sustainability, glossaries, special sections on biodiversity and the circular economy, as well as links to the resources of accountancy leaders, professional accounting organisations providing research, tools and expertise, and sources of information from the governments of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
