The Next Financial Year: Building Capacity (January 2024)

This position paper, published in January 2024, sets out proposals to improve the business environment in Ireland, under six headings: digital transformation, hybrid working, timing of new legislation affecting employers, affordable childcare, attracting taxpayers to Ireland, and accelerating the supply of affordable housing.

A position paper in our Next Financial Year series, Building Capacity is about putting in place the structures to manage and enable future growth. The challenges are complex and often interconnected. Hybrid working and digital skills are closely connected; new working patterns and childcare are inextricably linked; and we cannot attract more skilled people to work in Ireland without providing suitable, affordable housing for them to live in.

Builiding-Capacity

We know from our members, working and advising at the coalface of business, that the economic environment has made trading extremely challenging. That is why we ask the Government to check in with businesses about the timing of new legislation affecting employers. Doing so would avoid creating undue burdens at times when external economic factors create additional pressure.
