Chartered Accountants Ireland Professional Standards

On 1 January 2017, the department known as CARB changed its name to the Professional Standards department of Chartered Accountants Ireland. This change is due to revisions to the role of the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority (IAASA) and requires that responsibility for regulatory and disciplinary functions revert to the Institute. The Regulatory and Disciplinary functions of the Institute are overseen independently by the Chartered Accountants Regulatory Board.

The first Chairman of CARB was Dr Liam O'Reilly, formerly Chief Executive of the Financial Regulator in the Republic of Ireland. The current Chairman is Dr Don Thornhill.
