Check our exemptions guide to see if your course qualifies for exemptions

You can use the table below to check your exemptions from accredited courses in Irish and international third level institutions. Click on the course name for more details on the exemptions offered and the requirements for gaining them. If your course/college is not listed, please contact the student queries team for more information.

We are now working with Digitary CORE to facilitate students submitting secure electronic versions of their transcripts in support of eligibility and exemption applications.  A number of awarding bodies use the Digitary CORE functionality.  If you have studied with any of the listed bodies* and qualified on or after 2015 please avail of this functionality. This brief video outlines how you can share transcripts with us. If you have been provided with instructions from your prospective training firm on the Digitary CORE process please follow the instructions provided. Otherwise, please select the ‘Send my documents to a registered organisation’ option choosing 'Chartered Accountants Ireland' from the drop down menu. Then scan your completed eligibility and exemption form to studentqueries@charteredaccountants.ie. Please note for graduates of TU Dublin transcripts are not available via Digitary CORE and must be sent by Technological University Dublin directly to the above email address.

UCD We will continue to accept digital shares of UCD transcripts. Students should enable their transcripts for 3rd party verification and email studentqueries@charteredaccountants.ie a copy of the transcripts ensuring the Document ID and Person ID are both listed. Please include your completed eligibility and exemption form in this email also.

During the COVID-19 pandemic if you are not sending transcripts via Digitary CORE/UCD or there is no additional information beside your college below, please ensure you scan your application to studentqueries@charteredaccountants.ie in advance of posting it to us. This will ensure a timely assessment of your application.

Other degree programmes

(non-accredited degree programmes)

The awarding of exemptions isn't restricted to accredited degrees only - other programmes from recognised third level education providers can give students exemptions. Usually these programmes will give partial CAP 1 exemptions, but there are often exceptions.

If you have completed a non-accredited degree, the application process is the same as with accredited; we'll just need a little more information from you. As well as your transcripts of results for each year of study, you'll need to send in your course module descriptors and examples of exam papers. We accept applications from programmes overseas, and all documents sent to us must be translated into English by a certified service. Please note, applicants for our programe must reside on the island of Ireland.

Post graduate programmes

We have also accredited a number of post-graduate masters programmes for exemptions from our CAP 1 and CAP 2 exams. Please click the button below for more details.
